Two Scottish councils top poll of best employers

Two Scottish councils top poll of best employers

Two Scottish local authorities have been ranked the top public sector employers in the UK in a national employment survey.

Inverclyde Council was ranked the top employer overall in the Government Services category, with West Lothian Council in second place, in Bloomberg Best Employers UK 2016 survey.

Both were counted among the top 100 employers in the UK across all industries, in 61st and 77th place respectively, in a list that included major employers such as Jaguar Land Rover, Astra Zeneca, Microsoft and Estee Lauder.

Renfrewshire Council, City of Glasgow Council and West Dumbartonshire Council also made it into the top 25 in the Government Services category.

Inverclyde Council’s chief executive, John Mundell, said: “It is heartening that council employees who have responded to this survey have expressed a very positive view of Inverclyde Council as a place to work.

“Being 61st out of all employers in the UK which includes some of biggest brand names in the world is achievement enough.

“To come first in a poll of our peers in other councils and public sector organisations is the icing on the cake.”

The survey ranks the top 400 UK employers based on a sample of 15,000 UK employees working for companies or organisations with more than 500 employees.

Employees were consulted anonymously through online panels about their own employer and their views on employers in other sectors.
