Suspended college Principal invited back to work

The board of directors at Glasgow Clyde College has reversed the decision of its predecessor to suspend Principal Susan Walsh.

Walsh had been suspended in February and faced disciplinary hearings in April amid rumours of a clash between members of the college board, the regional board, including former First Minister Henry McLeish, and the Scottish Funding Council, who subsequently launched an investigation into the College’s governance.

In October the Education Secretary replaced the College’s board using a government order, and the new body pledged to review Walsh’s suspension.

The new board chairman Alex Linkston has informed Walsh she can return to work immediately.

“Having fully and exhaustively examined with colleagues the decision by the previous board to suspend Ms Walsh, the current board has written to Ms Walsh to inform her that it will not be pursuing any disciplinary action and that her suspension has been lifted with immediate effect.

“The past several months have proven a difficult time for Glasgow Clyde College, and the board sees as paramount the need to move forward and to look to the future with confidence.”
