Shetland gas fields production should cover Scottish demand
Peak production levels at new Shetland gas fields should be high enough to cover average Scottish demand, according to new information provided to the Scottish Parliament Information Centre.
The Laggan and Tormore fields, which have a shelf life of 20 years, should produce enough gas to cover eight per cent of UK demand.
The area, northwest of Shetland, is thought to hold around a fifth of the UK's remaining oil and gas reserves.

SNP MSP Mike MacKenzie said: “The newly constructed Shetland Gas Plant is a major economic investment and a sign of confidence in the future of our oil and gas industry.
“The scale of these new facilities is absolutely massive – with analysts confirming that these two fields will produce enough to meet 100% of Scotland’s gas demand.
“That’s good news for Shetland, for Scotland, and for our North Sea industry.”
