Scottish Tory conference cancelled
The Scottish Conservatives have been forced to cancel the party’s conference due to the disruption brought by extreme weather.
With parts of Scotland placed in a state of ‘amber alert’ and Transport Scotland urging motorists to avoid making unnecessary journeys, the party made the decision to cancel the conference.
Hundreds of drivers were left stranded on the M80 overnight, while parts of Scotland have seen deep snow drifts and temperatures falling below -7C.
Speaking at FMQs, Ruth Davidson expressed her regret that the party’s conference was off, with the First Minister paying tribute to the Scottish Conservatives for the decision to avoid encouraging travel.
Davidson announced the decision on Twitter, saying: “Delegates safety comes first, so reluctantly @ScotTories conference is now cancelled due to Amber warning being extended into tomorrow. My thanks to Police Scotland, the SG Resilience Unit and Scot Gov ministers who have kept us informed of changing weather and travel situation.”
