Scottish Power most complained-about energy company in the UK, according to Citizen’s Advice
Scottish Power is the most complained-about energy company in the UK, according to new data released by Citizen’s Advice Bureau.
The UK-wide Energy Supplier League Table shows the company received 944.3 complaints per 100,000 customers – 20 times more than SSE, the best performing supplier, with 47.7 complaints per 100,000 customers.
Sarah Beattie-Smith, consumer spokesperson for Citizens Advice Scotland said: “These latest complaint figures confirm what thousands of Scottish energy customers already know - that far too many companies are still failing them.

“Yet again, some of the biggest companies in the market have fallen short of what consumers rightly expect - accurate bills, accessible customer service and fair tariffs.”
The Competition and Markets Authority is currently investigating the energy market and how it affects consumers.
Beattie-Smith said the investigation was “a unique opportunity to address these issues and more, and to ensure even more transparency in energy market complaints”.
The company was handed a sales ban in March after failing Ofgem’s customer service targets, set after the regulator found customers were experiencing long call waiting times, receiving late bills and the firm was not implementing Ombudsman decisions.
CAB has also published a new tool allowing consumers to compare information on energy companies, including opening hours, the frequency of bills, and the different ways consumers can contact them.
