Scottish planning projects shortlisted for national awards

Five Scottish projects have been shortlisted for a prestigious national planning award.

Among the 80 finalists in the Royal Town Planning Institute’s (RTPI) 2015 Planning Awards for Excellence, five are from Scotland.

They include Hillington Park Simplified Planning Zone in Renfrewshire and the Glasgow Commonwealth Games Athlete Village.

The Scottish Government’s National Planning Framework 3 and the Scottish Planning Policy have been recognised in two categories while the project delivering the ecological recovery of Loch Leven has also been shortlisted.

Pam Ewen, convener of RTPI Scotland said: “It is terrific to see these exciting entries from Scotland given the high standard of entries received in this year’s Planning Awards.

“Shortlisting is a credit to the hard work and dedication put into the projects and recognising the positive contribution planning makes to Scotland.

“While all the shortlisted entries are incredibly deserving I’m hoping those from our region will be proclaimed the winners on the night.”

RTPI represents 23,000 planning professionals worldwide and promotes spatial planning, shapes policy and raises professional standards.

The Awards for Planning Excellence have been run by the RTPI for over 30 years to recognise planning excellence.

Janet Askew, president of RTPI said: “The shortlist reflects the very best planning projects, strategies and processes that are helping to make great places for people to live and work.

“The 80 finalists highlight exceptional examples of planning that have made an impact and brought considerable benefits.

“It will be a tremendous challenge picking individual category winners from such a high quality field.”

The awards ceremony will be held in London on 6 July.
