Scottish Parliament election campaign reaches final day

Political parties in Scotland embark on the last day of six weeks of campaigning today before tomorrow’s Holyrood 2016 election.

SNP leader Nicola Sturgeon will address a rally in Glasgow later, while Scottish Labour leader Kezia Dugdale, Scottish Conservative leader Ruth Davidson and Lib Dem, leader Willie Rennie will campaign in Edinburgh.

Scottish Greens co-conveners Patrick Harvie and Maggie Chapman will gather with fellow candidates in Edinburgh and Aberdeen respectively.

UKIP’s David Coburn will be at Longannet power station in Fife, while lead candidates for RISE will campaign in their respective regions.

Sturgeon is expected to reinforce the message of both votes for the SNP amid fears the party might lose its overall majority if supporters opt to split their vote to maximise the numbers of independence-supporting MSPs at Holyrood.

She will tell the rally the SNP has the most ambitious plan for Scotland.

“The only way to guarantee that we are able to implement our vision for Scotland is to cast both votes for the SNP when you go to the polls on Thursday,” she is expected say.

Dugdale will tell voters in Edinburgh South only a vote for Labour will stop cuts to public services.

“To make the next five years about the future rather than our past people have to use both their votes for Labour. A vote for anyone else will mean more cuts.”

Davidson will make her pitch for second to first time voters. “As our country's strong opposition we'll make sure Scotland gets the better government is deserves,” she is expected to say.
