Scottish Greens to elect new co-leaders

The Scottish Greens have begun the process of electing two new co-leaders for the party.

The leaders will be elected for a two-year term, meaning that they will take the party into the next Holyrood election in 2021.

They will be responsible for the political leadership of the party and act as the Greens’ chief spokespeople, following the adoption of a new constitution at the party’s spring conference.

In addition to choosing two new leaders, the party will also be selecting people for a number of internal positions, including to its party executive.

The nomination period closes at noon on Friday 28th June 2019, with party members then selecting from the candidates, and the result will be announced at the end of July.

A spokesperson for the Scottish Greens said: “The Scottish Greens are proud of our democratic credentials, with positions throughout the party gender balanced and elected by our membership.

“Following the adoption of a new constitution at our spring conference we’ll be electing co-leaders for the first time.

“We have hugely talented people throughout our party and would encourage members to stand, whether that be for frontline positions or the equally important internal roles.”
