Scottish Greens to announce new co-leaders
The Scottish Greens are due to announce the results of the party’s co-leader election in Edinburgh today
The leadership contest, which has been voted on by the party’s members, is between current co-conveners Maggie Chapman and Patrick Harvie, and three challengers: Guy Ingerson, Graham Kerr, and Lorna Slater.
Under a restructuring of the party organisation, the co-conveners are to be replaced by two co-leaders, one of whom must be a woman.
The Scottish Greens adopted a new constitution at its spring conference, which states the elected co-leaders will act as chief spokespeople and be responsible for the political leadership of the party.
The leaders will be elected for a two-year term, and will lead the party into the next Holyrood election.
“We have five fantastic co-leader candidates and whoever is elected today will continue to build on this success as we move toward the Holyrood election in 2021,” a Scottish Greens spokesperson said.
Chapman has been co-convener since 2013, while Harvie has held the position since 2008.
The election results will be announced this afternoon at Out of the Blue Drill Hall in Edinburgh.
