Scottish Conservative MPs will ‘make Britain great again’, says Ruth Davidson
Scottish Conservative MPs elected on Thursday will “make Britain great again”, the party’s leader Ruth Davidson has said.
In a warm up speech for Prime Minister Theresa May today in Edinburgh, Davidson called on Scots to use their vote to reject a second referendum on Scottish independence.
“You can take your second referendum – we don’t want it, we said No, we meant it. Get back to the day job,” she said.
Latest seat predictions suggest the Scottish Conservatives could win a number of seats in Scotland if people vote tactically against the SNP.
Scots Tory MPs, said Davidson, would go to Westminster to “try and make Britain great again”.
Theresa May told the crowd in a removal warehouse in Edinburgh that Jeremy Corbyn would grant Nicola Sturgeon permission to hold a second indyref.
Voters were faced with a choice between her and Corbyn for the next prime minister, she said.
“Me, I'm a passionate Unionist, I want to ensure the United Kingdom stays together, we strengthen those bonds across the whole of the United Kingdom,” she said.
"Or Jeremy Corbyn, negotiating with the SNP for a second referendum, which he is says is 'absolutely fine' by him."
May predicted he would get “a different view from the Scottish people”.
Labour have pledged they will not do a power-sharing deal with the SNP or any other party but would attempt to win backing for a Labour budget as a minority administration.
First Minister Nicola Sturgeon has said the SNP would “be part of a progressive alternative to a Tory government”.
Scottish Labour’s general election campaign manager James Kelly said: “Ruth Davidson’s stealing Donald Trump’s slogan was a toe-curling moment, but both the Tory campaign and the Trump campaign have sought to divide our society.”
SNP deputy leader Angus Robertson said: “The surreal sight of Theresa May addressing activists in a removal warehouse served only to underline the opportunity that the people of Scotland have to remove her majority on Thursday."
