Operation Branchform detectives investigating Nicola Sturgeon seek advice from prosecutors
Police investigating former first minister Nicola Sturgeon and the SNP’s finances have submitted their findings to prosecutors.
The update, which is understood to be about Sturgeon and former SNP treasurer Colin Beattie, is an “advice and guidance report” which seeks formal advice on what officers should do next.
Earlier this year, Sturgeon’s husband and former party chief executive Peter Murrell was charged with embezzling party funds.
A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “On 9 August, we presented the findings of the investigation so far to the Crown Office and Procurator Fiscal Service and we await their direction on what further action should be taken.”
Operation Branchform has been ongoing since 2021. Last year, Sturgeon was arrested and later released without charge.
Sturgeon has denied any wrongdoing. After her release from police custody last year, she said: “I know beyond doubt that I am in fact innocent of any wrongdoing.”
