New opinion poll shows Tories may overtake Labour in Scottish election

New opinion poll shows Tories may overtake Labour in Scottish election

A new opinion poll shows the Tories one seat ahead of Labour in the Scottish Parliament election.

The poll by Survation for the Daily Record shows Scottish Labour and the Scottish Conservatives almost neck and neck for vote share.

According to the poll of over 1,000 Scottish voters, the Tories would get 17 per cent of the constituency vote and Labour 18 per cent.

But this is reversed in the regional list votes with the Labour on 17 per cent and the Tories on 18 per cent.

If this voting intention were to be followed through on the day, this could give the Conservatives 21 seats and Labour only 20 seats.

The SNP are still projected to be well ahead of the opposition with 70 seats.

The Scottish Greens today welcomed the poll results, which show them gaining a record 12 seats.

Scottish Greens co-convener Patrick Harvie said: "The Scottish Greens have been polling strongly on the regional vote, and those regional votes will make all the difference in getting the bolder parliament Scotland needs.

“Our candidates and teams of campaigners are working hard to turn those polling numbers into Green MSPs who will be a fresh voice for every region of Scotland."

With the SNP is projected to win almost every constituency seat, the regional list votes are expected to be the key ones for all the other parties.
