The National Library of Scotland is looking for a fluent Gaelic speaker to become its ‘Gaelic Wikipedian’, who will facilitate community involvement in creating Gaelic pages for Wikipedia.
The aim is to increase the online profile of Gaelic language and culture by engaging Gaels in the development of Uicipeid, the Gaelic Wikipedia.
The role is the result of collaboration between National Library of Scotland and Wikimedia UK, with support from Bòrd na Gàidhlig.
The person appointed to the post will design and deliver activities to equip young Gaelic speakers between 16 and 25 years old and others in the Gaelic community with the skills to create and edit Uicipeid articles.
They will also work with Wikimedia UK and Gaelic organisations and communities to find the right approach for connecting the Gaelic community with Uicipeid.
Some of the key targets for the role are a minimum of 15 training events across Scotland, the creation or editing of at least 80 articles and the addition of 200 new images relating to Gaelic language and culture to Wikimedia Commons.
The closing date for applications to the fixed-term, part-time post is 4 November.
