More than half support early indyref2: poll
A slender majority of Scots would like to see a second independence referendum held sooner rather than later, according to a new Sunday Times poll.
The number of Scots who think the Union will never break up is also falling.
In the survey, conducted by Panelbase this month, 51 per cent of respondents said another referendum should be held either when the UK is negotiating to leave the EU or when negotiations had finished.
Forty-eight per cent of respondents were against another independence referendum in the next few years.
On the question of independence, 51 per cent of respondents said they opposed it, and 49 per cent were in favour.
The poll, of 1,024 voters, found 38 per cent believed Scotland was likely to become independent in the next 10 years.
Professor Sir John Curtice of Strathclyde University told The Sunday Times: “It seems that the days when unionists could claim with confidence that Scots do not want another independence referendum any time soon may have come to an end.”
