Margaret Ferrier to carry out 270 hours of unpaid work for breaching Covid rules
Scottish MP Margaret Ferrier has been ordered to carry out 270 hours of unpaid work after last month pleading guilty to breaching Covid rules.
The representative for Rutherglen and Hamilton West lost the SNP party whip when it emerged that she had travelled from London back to Glasgow by train after testing positive for Covid in September 2020.
Now an independent MP, she admitted culpably and recklessly exposing the public to the virus in a plea lodged at Glasgow Sheriff Court at the end of August.
Issuing her with the community pay-back order today, Sheriff Principal Craig Turnbull said Ferrier had "wilfully disregarded” the strict guidance in place at the time by not self-isolating after her positive test.
Ferrier must complete the sentence over the next nine months.
