Labour donor Lord Alli in standards investigation
A standards watchdog has opened an investigation into Labour donor Lord Alli.
The peer has given significant support to Keir Starmer and the Labour Party.
The Lords Commissioners for Standards have now opened up an investigation following a complaint that Alli had allegedly failed to register his interests.
Declarations are required by parliamentarians according to a code of conduct.
The complaint comes after news that Alli, who once held a temporary Downing Street security pass, provided clothing to Stamer and his wife, with glasses supplied to the new PM. He also provided accommodation for the use of Starmer's son during his GCSE exams and items were further given to Labour figures including Angela Rayner and Rachel Reeves.
Starmer has said all donations were made within the rules. However, he has also stated that those in his party will no longer accept such donations.
SNP Cabinet Office spokesperson Brendan O'Hara welcomed the inquiry but described it as "narrow" and called for "a full investigation by Standards Commissioners and the Independent Adviser on Ministers’ Interests into all the donations made by Lord Alli to Labour MPs and the subsequent granting of a Downing Street security pass".
