Ramsay El-Nakla, the brother in-law of the first minister, has been arrested and charged with abduction and extortion.

It is linked to an incident in January in Dundee where a man fell from a block of flats and died a week later in hospital.

El-Nakla is due to appear at Dundee Sheriff Court today.

A report will be submitted to the procurator fiscal.

He will be the fourth person to appear in court in connection with the case.

Three people have previously been arrested and charged in connection with the incident. Jennifer Soutar made no plea to a charge of culpable homicide at the hearing at Dundee Sheriff Court in April. She was remanded in custody.

Stephen Stewart and Victoria McGowan also faced charges of abduction and extortion this month. Both made no plea and were released on bail.

Police Scotland said in a statement: "A 36-year-old man has been arrested and charged with abduction and extortion following an incident where a man fell from a block of flats on Morgan Street, Dundee on Wednesday, 10 January. He died a week later in hospital.

"Three others were previously arrested and charged following the same incident.

"The 36-year-old man is due to appear in Dundee Sheriff Court today, Tuesday, 9 April, 2024. A report will be submitted to the procurator fiscal."
