Humza Yousaf to address Holyrood’s Health and Care Festival

Humza Yousaf to address Holyrood’s Health and Care Festival

Over the last two years, the pandemic has shone a light on the cracks within our health and social care system.

As well as significantly increasing the pressures facing health and care professionals, it has exacerbated existing health inequalities and made us reflect on the care and protection offered to those in older age groups.

Across three days this September, Holyrood Events will be running its first Health and Care Policy Festival in Edinburgh, focusing on areas for improvement within primary care, public health and older people’s health and wellbeing.

In order to address these areas for improvement, policy and processes must support professionals across health and social care to work collaboratively.

Holyrood will bring together stakeholders from across health and social care, providing delegates with the latest policy developments and showcasing examples of best practice. The event will also offer a chance for delegates to meet and discuss their own experiences, challenges and triumphs.

Chaired by health journalist Pennie Taylor, the three days will feature keynote addresses from across government, including Humza Yousaf MSP, Cabinet Secretary for Health and Social Care; Maree Todd MSP, Minister for Public Health, Women’s Health and Sport; Professor Jason Leitch, National Clinical Director; and Linda Pollock, Interim Director of the Healthcare Quality and Improvement Directorate.

Speaking ahead of the conference, where he will be addressing delegates at the Primary Care Day, Yousaf said: “Primary care teams have worked tirelessly over the past two and a half years, in exceptionally challenging circumstances.

“As we work to remobilise and recover our health service, our primary care colleagues will continue to play a vital role. I look forward to speaking to delegates at Holyrood’s first Health and Care Festival about how the Scottish Government will be supporting them.”
