Humza Yousaf brother-in-law faces High Court trial

The brother-in-law of former first minister Humza Yousaf is to stand trial in Edinburgh on extortion and drug charges following the death of a man in Dundee.

Ramsay El-Nakla has denied the charges against him.

The charges follow the death of Ryan Munro, who suffered serious injuries after falling from a window in Dundee in January 2024.

El-Nakla and three co-accused deny offences against them.

It is claimed that El-Nakla, 37, intimidated and extorted money from Munro. He is accused of placing the man in a state of fear or alarm, making threats of violence and intimidation and detaining him against his will, causing him to escape via a window at a city flat.

El-Nakla, whose sister is local councillor Nadia El-Nakla, is also charged with being concerned in the supply of cocaine.

He appeared at the High Court in Glasgow on Monday, where he entered a not guilty plea.

His co-accused Stephen Stewart, 51, Jennifer Souter, 39, and 42-year-old Victoria McGowan also deny abducting, threatening and causing Munro to exit through the window.

Stewart, Souter and McGowan are further accused of culpable homicide.

Stewart and Souter have both lodged a special defence of incrimination and the trial is scheduled to take place in December at the High Court in Edinburgh.
