Holyrood magazine editor Mandy Rhodes shortlisted for key journalism award

The nomination follows a clutch of wins for the magazine

Holyrood editor Mandy Rhodes has been shortlisted for a prestigious journalism award.

Rhodes is amongst just six people in the running for columnist of the year at the UK-wide PPA Awards.

Now in its 42nd year, the PPA Awards celebrates the best of the UK publishing & media industry. This years entries represent work carried out "during one of the most challenging economic periods in history", organisers said.

The nomination follows success for Holyrood at the PPA Scotland Awards in December, where Rhodes was named columnist of the year. The team also took home wins in the commercial performance, photograph, business publication and magazine of the year categories.

Rhodes commented: "I am delighted to be shortlisted for UK columnist of the year in this year's PPA Magazine Awards. Politics is never a dull place, particularly in Scotland, so it's not as if there aren't enough issues for columnists like me to wrestle with, and given the polarised nature of debate these days and the way we can all get pigeon-holed as being pro or anti any issue, whether that actually be the case or not, it is really rather nice to just be celebrated in this small way by my peers for my writing. And, of course, it's always good to see Scotland's success on a UK-wide stage. Good luck to my fellow shortlisted columnists on the night."

The winner will be announced at The Grosvenor House Hotel in London in June.
