Donald Trump hits back at Theresa May over criticism of his sharing of hate video tweets
Donald Trump - PA
Donald Trump has hit out at Theresa May for criticising his sharing of British neo-nazi propaganda on social media.
Downing Street condemned the President of the United States after he shared three videos by far-right extremist group 'Britain First' on Tuesday.
The videos depicted acts of aggression by alleged 'Muslim migrants' and were shared with the president's 43.6m followers.
Number 10 accused the organisation of using "hateful narratives", and said Trump was "wrong" to retweet them.
"Britain First seeks to divide communities through their use of hateful narratives which peddle lies and stoke tensions. They cause anxiety to law-abiding people," a Downing Street spokesperson said.
"Don't focus on me, focus on the destructive Radical Islamic Terrorism that is taking place within the United Kingdom. We are doing just fine!" Trump responded.
Several other leading figures in the UK have criticised Trump over the tweets, including the husband of murdered MP Jo Cox, who pointed out that the man who killed her had shouted 'Britain First'.
"You have a mass shooting every single day in your country, your murder rate is many times that of the UK, your healthcare system is a disgrace, you can’t pass anything through a congress that you control. I would focus on that," Brendan Cox tweeted at the president.
Britain First leader Paul Golding, a former BNP councillor, claimed last week that Jayda Fransen, who had composed the original tweets, had been arrested by Northern Irish police in Bromley, Kent.
The allegations are said to relate to a rally outside Belfast City Hall in August at which she gave a speech.
The pair are currently on bail awaiting trial for allegedly inciting religious hatred.
