Scottish Secretary David Mundell is set to hold talks with key industries in Scotland about the impact of the decision to leave the EU.

Mundell plans to speak to representatives of sectors such as oil and gas, agricultural, law firms and start-up businesses to listen to their concerns about Brexit.

Theresa May has already made clear she wants to find a "UK approach" to the deal with Brussels on the terms of Britain's exit.

However, the SNP has warned the vote means a second referendum on independence is now "highly likely", because a large majority of Scots voted to stay in the EU.

Meanwhile SNP deputy leadership candidate Tommy Sheppard has warned May she would need the SNP’s support during Brexit.

He said: “Theresa May can serve Article 50 without going to the House of Commons but she needs to get the Brexit plan for what happens next through the House of Commons and there isn't a majority for Brexit in the House of Commons, which she knows full well.

“So our votes, our 56 votes in the House of Commons are going to be quite critical to her getting something through.”

Mundell stressed he too was trying to get the best deal for Scotland, saying: “My task is to ensure that Scottish voices and interests are at the centre of the negotiations to come, and that is why this engagement is so important.

“We are determined to take a 'Team UK' approach to this process, working closely with the Scottish government and other partners as we form our negotiating strategy, and we will look at any suggestions they put forward.”
