Alex Salmond to stand for Scottish Parliament at 2026 election
Alex Salmond has confirmed that he will stand at the Scottish Parliament election in 2026.
The former first minister and leader of Alba will be a candidate for the Banff and Buchan seat – the constituency he served at Westminster from 1987 until 2010 and at Holyrood from 1999 to 2001.
Salmond made the announcement during a press conference in London this afternoon alongside Alba’s general secretary and general election candidate Chris McEleny and party chair Tasmina Ahmed-Sheikh.
He also announced that Alba will contest 20 seats at the upcoming general election. He will not be a candidate for any of those seats.
Earlier this week, Alba said it hoped to win more than 20 seats at the next Scottish Parliament election.
