Shortlist announced for inaugural Holyrood Green Giant Awards

Shortlist announced for inaugural Holyrood Green Giant Awards

Individuals and organisations at the forefront of the fight against climate change will be recognised in Holyrood's first-ever Green Giant Awards.

The awards will be announced on November 6 at the end of Holyrood's four-day fringe festival which is running alongside COP26 (October 31 - November 12) in Glasgow.

The Holyrood COP26 Fringe Festival will include 13 sessions of climate change and net-zero discussion, under four overarching themes of diversity and inclusion; technology and innovation; nature and the environment; and Scotland’s role in tackling the issue.

The festival will end with the Green Giant Awards, a chance to recognise and champion those individuals and organisations in Scotland who have made significant contributions to the fight against climate change.

The winner of all five categories will be announced at an awards ceremony, taking place at Platform, underneath Glasgow Central Station, on November 6, with attendees from across the political sphere, as well as those in the private, public and third sectors.

A lifetime achievement award will also be announced on the night to an individual who has made a significant contribution to climate justice in Scotland over a sustained period of time.

The Awards judging panel comprises Mandy Rhodes (Managing Editor, Holyrood); Roseanna Cunningham (Former Cabinet Secretary for Environment, Climate Change and Land Reform); Chris Stark (Chief Executive, Committee on Climate Change); Emma Yule (Co-Chair of Leaders Network, 2050 Climate Group); Fabrice Leveque (Head of Policy & Advocacy, WWF Scotland); and Alex Irwin (Operational Volunteer, 2050 Climate Group).
