Politicians and their pets: Jeremy Balfour with Holyrood dog of the year Sadie

Breed:  Cavapoo

Age: 9 months

How long have you had them?

We have the pleasure of being Sadie’s home away from home family, where she can come to be pampered and adored by my kids while her owners are on holidays or days out.

Where did you get them?

Sadie came from a local, reputable breeder - Rosedale Doodles in Preston.

Any special talents?

As you saw from her star performance at the Holyrood Dog of the Year award recently, Sadie is high energy and loved the agility course.

What’s the worst thing they’ve done?

Sadie has lived up to the cliché of ‘my dog ate my homework’ – in this case, my daughter’s! But Sadie was forgiven with those big puppy dog eyes!

Can you remember the first pet you had?

When I was born my parents had a dog, but the first pet I remember having is a goldfish. It was called Jaws!

Are you a pet owner or a pet parent?

I try to be a sensible pet owner, but my wife and twin daughters ensure Sadie is well and truly part of the family when she stays!

What’s the most ridiculous thing you’ve done for a pet?

Probably taking part in the agility course with Sadie for the Holyrood Dog of the Year! But it was worth it to see her crowned with the winning rosette!

If you could have any animal as a pet what would it be?

I have always been a dog lover, so it’s a no-brainer.
