Politicians and their pets: Cllr Kelly Parry

Kelly and Chewy

Politicians and their pets: Cllr Kelly Parry

What is your pet’s name?

Chewy

What breed is he?

Not sure, but very, very fluffy!

How old is he?

Two and three quarters.

How long have you had him?

Two and a half years

Where did you get him?

We got Chewy just after the first lockdown as we sadly lost our beloved cat Nala the year before.
What can he do?

Like every respectable cat, Chewy loves to prowl the neighbourhood looking for snacks, preferably snacks with feathers.

What do you love about your cat?

Chewy has the most adorable loving nature and he is so patient and loving with our four-year-old daughter Isla.

What special talents does he have?

Chewy can hear a tin of meat being opened from at least half a mile away.

What’s his best trick?

Manipulating humans for food with his adorable personality.

What are his most annoying habits?

Coming home in the morning covered in leaves and mud.

What’s the worst thing he has done?

Chewy once broke into the neighbour’s food waste bin and scattered the contents all over the street. I’m not sure if the neighbours knew it was Chewy, but they might do now.

Do you think of yourself as a pet parent or pet owner? Definitely a pet parent. Chewy means the world to all the family.

What’s the most ridiculous thing you have bought or done for your pet?

Chewy had a really bad accident a year ago and the vet bill was eye watering. It was worth every penny though; without extensive surgery he wouldn’t have made it. He’s only got one hip and a few scars, but you would never know it now and he lives a happy and normal active cat life.

What’s your first pet or animal-related memory?

I’ve always loved animals and I have lovely early memories of staying on my cousin’s farm when I was wee. We used to collect eggs, hang out with cows, and get chased by the odd sheep; fun times.

What was the first pet you ever had?

My first pet was a little bunny called Jenny, she used to just hop around the house. Looking back, it seems odd now, but it was the 80s.

What would be your dream pet?

I’d love to have enough time to have a dog, but for now we are more than happy with our cat family.

If you could be any animal what would you be?

If I could be looked after as well as Chewy is then a cat would be a good shout, though I’d perhaps upgrade to something with a bit more of a bite, so maybe a tiger.
